Athletic Therapy

Athletic Therapy (Sports Training)

Daily exercise is essential for health. It peps up bodily functions, lumbers the structure and gives energy, serenity and fun. No pain, no gain? Don't believe it! Acute athletic injuries may damage joints and the body's soft tissue or may result in painful chronic conditions. Sprains, strains, bruising and tendonitis are common.

Rule of thumb is to treat minor to prevent major. In sports injury joint problems your chiropractor may be able to treat the joint directly or recommend hot or cold compresses or immobilization or stabilization. Physiotherapy, massage therapy or specific exercises designed by an athletic therapist may be required. All these facilities are available at the multi-disciplinary clinic at the Oakville Chiropractic Centre.

WHAT IS A CERTIFIED ATHLETIC THERAPIST?
A certified Athletic Therapist is a healthcare professional who provides effective solutions to help recover from physical injury and promotes healthy, active living.

WHAT CARE IS PROVIDED BY CERTIFIED ATHLETIC THERAPISTS?
In addition to using a variety of treatment modalities, the Certified Athletic Therapist provides individualized recovery and rehabilitation programs. A key component of this care is patient education of the following: exercise, reconditioning, awareness of injury prevention measures, and how to avoid reoccurrence. Counseling and lifestyle modification helps the patient to return to enhanced activities of daily life as soon as possible.

The scope of practice of a Certified Athletic Therapist includes the prevention, acute care and reconditioning of musculoskeletal injuries. Prevention includes musculoskeletal and postural evaluation, modality intervention of needed, manual techniques, conditioning programs, prophylactic and supportive taping.

In cooperation with other allied healthcare professionals, Certified Athletic Therapists ensure that the patient receives optimal care which includes encouraging a positive and healthy lifestyle.
